BETHESDA, Md. (Oct. 8, 2014) – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) has selected Concepts, Inc., an independent communications firm, to support its efforts in disseminating disability employment best practices to employers and policymakers. Through three separate contracts, Concepts will lend its expertise in disability and veterans issues to provide strategic awareness and outreach support.
Two of these projects will focus on increasing the capacity of employers to recruit, hire and advance qualified people with disabilities: As a key partner in a $1.84 million one-year cooperative agreement, Concepts will help The Viscardi Center and other partners promote a national employer technical assistance center and integrate its activities into ODEP’s policy and programmatic priorities. Under another year-long project for ODEP, Concepts will incorporate lessons learned from the Add Us In consortium into a step-by-step guide for small businesses, which will be dispersed through national, state and local Chambers of Commerce.
Included in its recent wins, Concepts started its seventh consecutive year of managing and facilitating ePolicyWorks, a modern approach to federal policymaking that leverages technology and citizen engagement to address employment barriers for people with disabilities. Concepts oversees several collaborative online workspaces and crowdsourcing tools for the project, which successfully brings together multiple stakeholders across the public and private sectors.
“Finding meaningful work continues to be a major issue for people with disabilities,” said Concepts President Karen Herson. “We are thrilled to support ODEP in its efforts to help employers understand best practices for creating diverse and inclusive organizations that recognize the many skills and talents of all employees, including those with disabilities.”
These projects are a natural extension of Concepts’ long-term work providing strategic communications support to ODEP.
