BETHESDA, Md. (Oct. 1, 2014) – Concepts, Inc., an independent communications firm specializing in disability and veterans issues, is a key partner in a $1.84 million cooperative agreement, awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), to manage a national employer technical assistance center. The center’s purpose is to increase the capacity of employers to recruit, hire and advance qualified people with disabilities.
Leading this effort is The Viscardi Center, a network of nonprofit organizations that provide a lifespan of services to people with disabilities. Concepts will support The Viscardi Center and other partners by providing strategic communications support to promote the national employer technical assistance center and integrate its activities into ODEP’s policy and programmatic priorities.
“We are thrilled to join forces with such an esteemed organization on such an important project,” said Concepts President Karen Herson. “We look forward to working with The Viscardi Center and all the other partners to advance employment opportunities for people with disabilities by ensuring employers understand best practices for creating organizations welcoming of their skills and talents.”
The cooperative agreement was awarded following a competitive process and is for a 12-month period with four option years, based on availability of funding. Additional partners include the National Conference of State Legislatures; U.S. Business Leadership Network; George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development, Center for Applied Developmental Science and Neuroeducation; Georgia Institute of Technology’s Center for Advanced Communications Policy and Scheller College of Business; World Institute on Disability; Center for the Study and Advancement of Disability Policy; and DiversityInc.
