BETHESDA, Md. (Mar. 3, 2015) – Today, Concepts, Inc.’s “Who I Am” public service announcement (PSA) received an honorable mention at the Social Good Awards, a program that honors excellence in the area of social good in the TV and entertainment industry. Company President Karen Herson and project team lead Greta Menard represented Concepts at the awards ceremony at the Yale Club in New York City.
“Who I Am” is the third in a series of PSAs developed for the Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE) by Concepts in partnership with production company RaffertyWeiss Media. The CDE, a multi-organization initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, encourages employers and others to recognize the value and talent people with disabilities bring to America’s workplaces.
The PSA features nine diverse people with disabilities—some obvious and some not—sharing how they describe themselves from personal interests to family relationships to occupations. Among them is film and television actor RJ Mitte, best known for his roles in AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth.” Concepts solicited Mitte’s participation in cooperation with United Cerebral Palsy, a partner in the CDE.
“It was our distinct pleasure to be recognized by Cynopsis for our work on ‘Who I Am’,” said Herson. “We enjoyed every aspect of producing the PSA, especially working with its nine phenomenal cast members, who truly exemplify the important message that disability does not define a person or limit what he or she can achieve.”
“Who I Am” was distributed to television stations across the country last year. Also produced by Concepts, the CDE’s first two PSAs, “I Can” and “Because,” were distributed in 2010 and 2013 respectively and earned millions in donated media time.
Other Social Good Award honorees included A+E Networks, Barclaycard US, Bravo Digital Media, Cartoon Network Latin America, Crackle, DIRECTV, Discovery Communications, ESPN, Food Network, FOX Sports, MLB Advanced Media, NBCUniversal, Nickelodeon, OMD, Sprout, Time Warner Cable, Univision Communications Inc., USA Network and Viacom.
